History in the Making

Airline Assistance Switzerland was initially established on 27th October 2003 under the name "Hahn Air Schweiz AG" and received a self-handling license to support the airline Hahn Air on the ground here at Zürich airport.

After several months of operation, it seemed evident that there was a demand for a third ground service provider at the Zürich airport. Hence, the company applied for a third party handling license which was granted by the airport authority as of January 2005. In early 2008, the majority of the company shares were sold to Swiss private investors and the company was re-named Airline Assistance Switzerland AG. 

AAS Milestones

  • FEBRUARY 2017
    Transavia enters Zurich market and chooses AAS as the trusted partner for the ground handling services. Starting from February 2017, Transavia will operate the route Zurich-Amsterdam up to 4 flights a week.
  • MAY 2016
    AAS has won the tender for the easyJet handling at Zurich Airport. Starting from 1 September, AAS will be the ground service provider for easyJet and handle 3-5 daily flights to LGW, LTN and HAM.
  • APRIL 2016
    LOT Polish Airlines changes their ground handler as per 1st April 2016 to AAS. AAS now proudly serves three Star Alliance Carriers.

  • MARCH 2016
    AAS is proud to sign a contract with CITYJET to provide ground handling services.
  • FEBRUARY 2016
    AAS is pleased to welcome two new customers. The European traditional airline Air Malta and Star Alliance member Adria Airways have chosen AAS as their new ground handling partner at Zurich Airport.

  • JANUARY 2016
    Twinjet starts to operate 4 weekly flights from Zurich to Toulouse with a Beechcraft. The new airline in Zurich Airport is handled by AAS.
  • NOVEMBER 2015
    AAS enters into a close partnership with Vebego Airport AG for cleaning, water and toilet services.
  • JULY 2015
    First time in history, AAS handles more than 2,000 tons of baggage during July. Compared with July last year, where 1,750 tons were handled, this is a growth of 14%.
  • MARCH 2015
    AAS welcomes their new customer SunExpress.
  • SUMMER 2014
    AAS welcomes their new customers Aegean, Wow Air and Atlasjet.
  • JUNE 2014
    A Ground Handling Alliance called ground.net is born! AAS joins a strategic partnership with Aeroground Flughafen München GmbH and Goldair Handling. The main goal of the partnership is to provide airlines with a multi-station network alternative alongside the global players. Learn more: www.ground.net
  • MAY 2014
    Swissport outsources the ramp handling of all their Air Berlin and Air Berlin Group flights to AAS. On the ramp side, there are now 12 – 26 additional flight handlings a day.
  • MARCH 2014
    AAS welcomes its new customers Intersky and AIS who bring additional 4-8 daily rotations
  • MARCH 2013
    Dieter Streuli takes over the lead of the company as CEO. The former CEO, Stefan Resele, stays in the company as an advisor.
  • WINTER 2011
    AAS starts its first De-Icing season and gains Air Berlin as a new customer for De-icing Services.
  • MARCH 2010
    After a reorganisation, the new CEO Stefan Resele, takes over the lead of the company.
  • FEBRUARY 2010
    AAS handles its first flight of British Airways. With this deal, the company grows up to 200 employees.
  • MARCH 2008
    The majority of the company shares are sold to Swiss private investors and the company is re-named to Airline Assistance Switzerland AG. Between 2008 and 2012 AAS gains several customers, such as Pegasus Airlines, Air Baltic, Czech Airlines, Aeroflot and many Charter Airlines such as Dubrovnik Airlines, Carpatair, Danube Wings, Iceland Express, Swift Air and many more.
  • JUNE 2007
    Hahn Air Schweiz AG handles its first flight of its new customer Alitalia. In addition, a ticket counter is established for the new customer. The handling deal with Alitalia is Hahn Air's base for further growth
  • FEBRUARY 2006
    Hahn Air Schweiz AG handles its first flight of an Airbus A320 with the new customer FlyNiki.
  • JANUARY 2005
    "Hahn Air Schweiz AG" applies for a third party handling license which is granted by the airport authority as of January 2005. Within the same year, the company contracts a few smaller airlines for Ground Handling such as OLT (Metroliner), Cityairline (Dash) and Dauair (Saab 2000).
  • OCTOBER 2003
    The Company is initially established on 27th October 2003 under the name "Hahn Air Schweiz AG" and receives a self-handling license to support the airline Hahn Air on the ground at Zürich airport.
